MNCs were isolated out of 60 ml peripheral blood from 20 control subjects and 20 type 1 diabetic patients. MNCs were plated
on gelatin-coated dishes, and EPCs were cultured for 4 days. A: The total EPC numbers were counted and a 44% reduction was seen in the type 1 diabetic patients compared with the healthy
control subjects. B: This reduction in EPC numbers inversely correlated with glycemic control assessed by HbA1c.
