Sir Frederick Banting (1891–1941), a physiologist, doctor, and Nobel laureate, is noted as one of the key investigators in the discovery of insulin. The American Diabetes Association Banting Medal for Scientific Achievement is awarded annually to honor significant achievements in the field of diabetes research. This issue of Diabetes features the 2014 Banting Lecture (p. 317), which was given by 2014 award recipient Dr. Daniel J. Drucker at the 74th Scientific Sessions in San Francisco, CA, on 15 June 2014.
