  • Values are means ± SE. Isolated islets were preincubated for 1 h at 2.8 mmol/l glucose, followed by 1-h incubation in the presence of the indicated agent. Succinate and malate were extracted from islets with TCA and analyzed using a fluorometric enzyme assay as described previously (24) and in research design and methods.
